CRAM the CRUISER

Posted On Monday May 13, 2019

Hello Parents and Students,

Feed the Need in Durham is once again partnering with the Durham Regional Police Service for the 4th annual “Cram-a-Cruiser” food drive event, created to help stock up our shelves before the summer drought hits the warehouse. We are challenging your child/children’s school to collect enough non-perishable food items to cram an entire police cruiser. In 2018, over 11,000 pounds of food were raised, the equivalent of over 9,500 meals for those facing hunger in our community. This year we have set a collective goal of raising 12,500 meals for those in need in our community. Together we can do amazing things!

Feed the Need in Durham is the regional food distribution hub providing perishable and non-perishable food items to 63 emergency food providers across Durham Region including food banks, Oshawa’s soup kitchen, shelters, in school programs, and other social service agencies. From April 2017 – March 2018, Feed the Need in Durham distributed 1.2 million pounds of food, the equivalent of 980,000 meals.

Please send non-perishable food item/s to school with your child before June 4th. DRPS will visit the school on Tuesday, June 4th when students will help to “Cram-the-Cruiser” with the food collected. The police will then deliver the donations to the Feed the Need in Durham warehouse in Oshawa to be weighed, sorted and distributed to emergency food providers across the Region.
This is a fantastic opportunity for your children to become engaged in giving back, work with the local police, and have some fun while helping those less fortunate in their community.
